Dozens of people evacuated after fire in Amsterdam student complex
After a fire in a student complex in Amsterdam-Noord, several dozen people had to leave their homes. The fire in Kraanspoor has now been extinguished and there were no injuries, a fire department spokesman reported.
The first report of the fire came in at around 8:50 p.m. According to the spokesperson, people were taken out of the building due to the smoke. They have been temporarily accommodated in a nearby fire station IJsbrand on Dispalystraat, the fire department wrote on X.
However, the spokesperson could not yet say anything about the extent of the damage to the building. According to him, the fire department is busy ventilating the building. As soon as the ventilation has been completed and all harmful substances have disappeared from the building, some of the temporarily housed residents will be able to return to their apartments. For some of the other residents, it is not yet clear when they will be able to return home.
