Temps up to 23°C today and tomorrow; Will cool off next week
Temperatures in the Netherlands could climb as high as 23 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, about 7 degrees warmer than the long-term average for this time of year, according to Dutch meteorological office KNMI. The mercury is very unlikely to climb high enough to set a record, but it could become the third warmest October 15 on record, behind the high mark of 24.4 degrees set in 2017 and the runner-up a year later at 24.3 degrees.
The high of 23 degrees is likely to be reached in the southwest of the country, close to the border with Belgium. It should be a degree cooler in most of that province, as well as Zuid-Holland and Utrecht. Noord-Holland, the eastern provinces, and Limburg could all see temperatures as high as 21 degrees, while the far northeastern region will be a fair bit cooler at 17 degrees, the KNMI said.
"This afternoon there will be a lot of sun," the meteorological office said on Wednesday. "The wind is from the southeast and is moderate, fairly strong at sea and occasionally on the IJsselmeer. Tonight it will be partly cloudy and it will remain dry almost everywhere."
Overnight temperatures will fall everywhere by about 7 degrees, before rising back up again on Thursday afternoon. The high temperature will range from 18 degrees in the northwest up to 21 degrees in the southeast. It should be cooler on the Wadden Islands, with the high there around 16 degrees.
Thursday will be less sunny than on Wednesday, but it should "remain dry in many places," the KNMI said. Occasional showers are expected Thursday evening, with winds remaining strong along the coast while decreasing inland. Dense fog could develop during the overnight hours, with a chance of a weather warning for low visibility that morning. The high on Friday should be around 19 degrees with a 40 percent chance of light rain.
The KNMI predicted a "fairly mild" weekend with "mainly dry" weather. Saturday could peak at around 17 degrees, but Sunday could climb again to 20 degrees. The unseasonably warm weather could remain on Monday, despite a higher chance of rain. A mostly cloudy Tuesday should range from 15 to 17 degrees.
From next Wednesday through the end of October, the KNMI is expecting a continued mix of sunny, cloudy, dry and rainy weather. "The chance of maximum temperatures above the long-term average will decrease sharply," the meteorological office said.
