Convicted footballer Quincy Promes to continue playing career in Dubai

Quincy Promes has found his next team in Dubai. The forward has signed a contract for a season at United FC Dubai, which plays in the second division of the United Arab Emirates. Russian media had already reported that the Amsterdammer was going to sign for FC Dubai. Promes is currently awaiting a possible extradition to the Netherlands for drug trafficking and a stabbing.

His new club announced on social media that they were making a big signing with a photo of Promes attached. Promes was out of contract. Russian club Spartak Moscow reported at the beginning of June that former Ajax, FC Twente, Go Ahead Eagles, and Sevilla players' contract had ended.

The 50-time Oranje international has been convicted twice in the Netherlands. He was given six years in prison for cocaine trafficking and a year and a half for stabbing his cousin. The Public Prosecution Service wants him to serve his sentence in the Netherlands and requested his extradition to Dubai in March.

The forward has not been allowed to leave the United Arab Emirates since February when he was there with his club Spartak Moscow on a training camp. He is awaiting a decision on a possible extradition.

A striking clause has been included in Promes' contract with United FC Dubai. The attacker is allowed to return to Spartak Moscow if he is allowed to leave the United Arab Emirates.
