Schiphol 11th in ranking for expensive taxis to nearest city center
A taxi ride from Schiphol Airport to the Amsterdam city center costs 66 euros, 6 euros more than last year. This was reported by Vliegveldinfo.nl, which conducted research into taxi fares at 50 European airports. Schiphol is in 11th place in this ranking.
At 20 of the 50 busiest airports in Europe, prices have risen compared to the previous year. In Europe, the average price for a cab from the airport to the city center is now 49 euros, with an average journey time of 31 minutes. Compared to 2023, cabs at airports have become 6.6% more expensive, reports Vliegveldinfo.nl.
According to the site, taxi rides from the airports in London are the most expensive. For example, travelers who land at London Stansted pay the equivalent of 122 euros for a taxi to the center of the British capital.
The price also depends on the distance from the airport to the city. For instance, it is 63 kilometers from Stansted to the center of London at a rate of 1.94 euros per kilometer, according to Vliegveldinfo.nl. The distances between other London airports and the center are shorter, but the price per kilometer is higher there. For a taxi ride from Heathrow to London, a distance of 27 kilometers, customers pay the equivalent of 87 euros.
Milan Bergamo tops the list. A 52-kilometre trip to the centre of Milan from that airport also costs 122 euros.
Guus Wantia, owner of Vliegveldinfo.nl, calls the price increases annoying but not surprising. "In general, going on holiday has become more expensive. Flight tickets and accommodation will cost the upper hand this summer," he says. However, according to Wantia, it is possible to save on transport. For example, taxi services such as Uber and Bolt are increasingly present at European airports.
