Dutch Royal Family apologizes to radio DJ arrested while driving same route as Amalia
The Dutch Royal Family has apologized to NPO Blend DJ Serginio Piqué. He was arrested in Antwerp with his friends because he was thought to be following Princess Amalia, who was driving the same route. The radio DJ's attorney told ANP that the case is now closed and that he will not take any further legal action.
Piqué drove from Amsterdam to Antwerp along with a few friends, where they were arrested because they apparently had driven the same route as Amalia. They were held at gunpoint, handcuffed, and taken to a police van where they were questioned for an hour, Het Parool reported on Thursday.
Piqué and his lawyer, Vito Shukrula, were called personally by a representative for the Royal Family. The spokesperson said that the office found the situation regretful, and apologized after the incident in Belgium. The spokesperson said it was an "unfortunate coincidence because the princess had to be protected," the lawyer recalled.
Government press office RVD, which also represents the Royal Family, said that it has told Serginio Piqué that they understand how irritating and terrifying this must have been. This was sufficient for Piqué and Shukrula to drop the case.
They recognize the harm that has been done which was very important to us. That's what Serginio was after." Shukrula and his client have said that they are taking no further legal action.
"Because we got what we wanted, and that is recognition"” According to DJ's Shukrula, what the DJ's friends "do after the"apology is “up to them."
