Code yellow issued for extreme heat with temps to hit 35 degrees in the Netherlands

The KNMI has issued a Code Yellow weather warning for Monday for the three southern provinces of Zeeland, Noord-Brabant, and Limburg. The weather institute warns that it will be very hot on Monday, especially in the south, with temperatures between 32 and 35 degrees. "In combination with the high humidity, this heat can be very challenging," says the institute.

Code yellow applies to all three provinces for the time being from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

People with "vulnerable health," in particular, could develop symptoms such as overheating and dehydration, according to the KNMI. "Anyone can get these complaints during heavy exertion," the national meteorological institute explained.

Maximum temperatures between 28 and 32 degrees are expected in other parts of the country on Monday. Tuesday could still be hot in the east and south, KNMI said. "However, it will be slightly less warm than Monday. It will cool down a bit later in the day."

Weeronline reported that Monday will be the warmest day of the week and the warmest day of the year so far. "A weak to moderate wind from the east will bring warm and humid air to our country and plenty of sunshine. As a result, temperatures will rise rapidly, and we can expect widespread highs between 30 and 34 degrees. Locally in the south, we could even reach the 35-degree mark."

Even on Monday night, it will stay warm for a long time. Around 9 p.m., it is expected to remain between 25 and 30 degrees, and during the night, temperatures will drop to around 20 degrees. According to the weather service, it will not get colder than 20 degrees in some Dutch cities over the next few days.

It will be mild on Tuesday night, Weeronline predicts. The minimum temperature will be around 20 degrees. "There is a good chance of a 'tropical night' in the cities. That's a night when the temperature doesn't drop below 20 degrees."

Furthermore, the weather service reports that strong thunderstorms will move across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday. "On Tuesday, it will still be warm at first, but the showers will gradually reduce the heat."
