Four arrested in Germany for fatal beating of asylum seeker on Hague square
Four men were arrested in Germany on Tuesday for the deadly assault of a 23-year-old man from Somalia on the Plein in The Hague. This incident occurred on Sunday, July 21.
The men in question are a 19-year-old man, a 21-year-old man, and two 23-year-old men. Police reported that all four suspects live in Germany. The Public Prosecution Service has asked German authorities to extradite the suspects.
The victim was staying in an asylum seekers center in Heerhugowaard (Noord-Holland). He got into an argument with four men during the overnight hours of July 20 to July 21 at around 00:30 on the Lange Potten. The argument led to the fatal violence a little further on on the Plein.
A large investigation led to the arrests. The police sent a text message to people who were near the Plein that night. Flyers were also distributed, and there were so-called pavement signs on the Plein with which the police called on people to share images or information.
