Train to Zandvoort every 5 minutes during Formula 1 weekend

Railway company NS will use extra trains during the Grand Prix weekend in Zandvoort from 23 to 25 August. There will be a train driving between Amsterdam Centraal and Zandvoort every five minutes on the weekend. “This is a huge logistical operation because there are usually two to four trains an hour on this rail,” said the NS. They are expected to have around 50,000 people traveling by train daily on the weekend in question. In addition to more trains, the company is also deploying more than 300 additional employees.

The travel times will be adapted throughout the whole country on the F1 weekend. In addition to the Grand Prix, other events are on the program, like the festival Zand in Almere.

ProRail is also working on the railways in various places in the country, and some NS employees are on holiday. By adapting the timetable, “we are driving most trains to where we expect the most passengers,” said the NS, who said it is all hands on deck that weekend.

Travelers should expect a lot of hecticness in trains and stations going towards Zandvoort. The NS advises Formula 1 visitors to check the travel planner and to already purchase a Dutch Grand Prix Return Ticket online.

They think this could prevent “long queues at ticket machines.’” Bicycles are not allowed on the train to Amsterdam from 2 p.m., which applies all day between Amsterdam and Zandvoort during the race weekend.
