Many passengers arrive earlier at Schiphol after Windows outage
Following the major global computer failure on Friday, many passengers arrive earlier at Schiphol Airport on Saturday morning. According to Schiphol, this is understandable but unnecessary and may lead to extra crowding if these travelers join passengers arriving at the recommended time.
Schiphol advises travelers to arrive three hours earlier for intercontinental flights and two hours earlier for European destinations and to keep an eye on the latest flight information. With the start of the summer vacations in the Northern Region, Schiphol is preparing for one of the busiest weekends of the season with a large influx of travelers.
To ensure that everything runs smoothly, extra staff have been deployed to guide and provide information to travelers. Schiphol expects the crowds to remain manageable. "In this way, we hope to give all vacationers a carefree start to their journey," the airport said.
On Friday, an international computer failure caused major problems at Schiphol, with many delays and almost 200 flights canceled. However, the systems were brought back up during the afternoon. The disruption began with a faulty update at cyber security provider CrowdStrike.
A spokesperson for Eindhoven Airport said that everything is back to normal. "It is very busy, but everything is fine." Early Friday evening, the airport's systems were restarted. Due to the malfunction, a number of flights were canceled, and other flights at Eindhoven Airport were delayed.
At Rotterdam The Hague Airport, too, the outage has no aftermath. "Everything is running as usual. It is a normal summer day, and we see nothing unusual," said a spokesperson.
