Oranje has already earned 10.75 million euros at the European Championship
Oranje has raised 10.75 million euros at the European Championships, the starting bonus for which is 9.25 million euros. The first match of the European Championships against Poland (2:1) brought in 1 million euros, and the draw against France on Friday evening brought in 500,000 euros.
With four points from two games, the flagship of Dutch football is on course for the round of 16. This is because the number 1 and 2 teams and the four best number 3 teams in the pools will make it through to the group stage of the European Championship finals. The best 16 teams in the European Championship will be rewarded with 1.5 million euros.
The quarter-finalists will receive 2.5 million euros, the semi-finalists 4 million euros, and the finalists 5 million euros. The winner of the European Championship will receive 8 million euros. The total prize money for the European Championship in Germany amounts to 331 million euros.
Oranje faces Austria in their last group-stage match in Berlin on Tuesday. Austria beat Poland 3-1 earlier on Friday and has three points in the group. France faces the already-eliminated Poland.
The Netherlands-France match watched by more than 5.4 million people on TV
More than 5.4 million people watched the European Championship match between the Netherlands and France live on television on Friday evening. National Media Onderzoek (NMO), which records viewing figures in the Netherlands, confirmed the NOS data on Saturday. However, NMO could not say how many people watched online.
More Dutch people watched online than the first European Championship match between Orange and Poland. This was watched live on television by 4.7 million people. According to NOS, the match on Friday evening was the most watched EC match to date.
However, NOS emphasized that the 5.4 million viewers are not the final viewing figures. These will only be announced after a week when it is clear how many people watched the broadcast online and via apps. This measurement method was adapted last year at the request of all broadcasters and channels.
The "new style" ratings are also not comparable with the ratings of the last European Championship, when they were still measured using the old method.
