A9 highway closed at Schiphol bridge through morning rush hour; Expect delays
The A9 highway will be closed at the Schiphol bridge during morning rush hour on Monday due to delayed railworks, the Rijkswaterstaat reported. It warned motorists to expect severe delays. By 7:27 a.m., the ANWB had already reported 33 traffic jams covering 154 kilometers of Dutch roads, including 7 kilometers of traffic piled up on the A9
The A9 will be closed in the direction of Schiphol until 10:00 a.m. on Monday, a spokesperson for the Rijkswaterstaat told ANP. In the other direction, the highway should open around 8:00 a.m.
Since Friday, the highway has been largely closed between the Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht junctions because the Rijkswaterstaat is installing a new bridge deck. Strong winds delayed the installation. Rijkswaterstaat hoped to have the work done by 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
Rijkswaterstaat and the ANWB expect the closure of the busy highway to cause significant traffic jams during the morning rush hour on Monday. They warned road users to expect detours and delays.
Roadworks on the A7 and A12 were also expected to cause delays.
