Dutch tourist, 74, missing on Greek island Samos; Search underway
A 74-year-old Dutch tourist has been missing on the Greek island of Samos since Sunday morning. He went for a walk alone and never returned. The local authorities are searching for him.
The man left from Marathokampos, in the southwest of the island. His wife reported him missing on Sunday afternoon.
The Samos Hellenic Rescue Team launched a search for the man, working with the coast guard, police, fire brigade, and a drone team. A sniffer dog and locals also helped with the search.
No sign of him had been found by 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, Dutch time, the rescue team said on Facebook.
A police spokesperson told Reuters that the Dutchman had been staying on the island since May. A woman told a local newspaper that she saw the tourist in the Klima area on Sunday afternoon, adding that he was walking on a particularly challenging route.
On Sunday, British TV presenter Michael Mosley was found dead on another Greek island, Symi. He went missing after taking a walk alone in the heat. His body was found four days after his disappearance.
