First of four weekend closures on the A12 and A20 has started, traffic jams expected
Due to construction work, the A12 and A20 are closed from Moordrecht in the direction of Utrecht (Oudenrijn junction). The entrance and exit ramps are closed. The closure will last until Monday at 5 a.m. It is the first weekend closure in a series of four this month.
According to Rijkswaterstaat, the construction work results from renewing the asphalt. The aim is to build noise-reducing asphalt on the highway section. Rijkswaterstaat strongly believes that the current noise protection standards will be exceeded on parts of the A12 in a few years, and the new asphalt will prevent this.
Construction work on the A12 has been underway since Sunday and has recently caused traffic jams. This will continue for the rest of the month, warns Rijkswaterstaat, and road users are advised to avoid the A12 in June. Starting Monday morning, two of the four lanes of the A12 will be open again. Overall, the additional travel time can be up to 60 minutes.
Rijkswaterstaat advises road users not to use the A12 during work in June and to work from home if possible. Furthermore, road users should use public transport or cycle to work. Road users who have to use the A12 should use navigation for the best diversion routes.
