Woman's body found in Hellevoetsluis; 20-year-old man arrested

A body was found in Hellevoetsluis in Zuid-Holland on Thursday afternoon by the Parallelweg in the park of Ravense Hout, police report. The victim was identified as a 59-year-old woman from Brielle. A 20-year-old Hellevoetsluis man was arrested for a possible connection to the deceased woman.

The police started an investigation straight after the body was found. A search was started with the use of a helicopter after information had come in that somebody may have been seen walking away from the area where the body was found.

The 20-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after in the nearby area. His possible connection to the incident is still being investigated.

He was due to be brought before the examining magistrate on Friday. During the arraignment, the magistrate can extend the initial custody by up to two weeks while the case remains under investigation. A subsequent court hearing can extend that pre-trial detention by up to 90 days at a time.

The police are looking for any witnesses.
