Corendon to begin charging customers for using overhead bins on flights
Corendon will start charging its passengers who take luggage with them into the airplane cabin. The new charge will apply for tickets booked from Wednesday, a spokesperson for the airline and tour operator confirmed after initial reporting by the Telegraaf.
People will pay 15 euros per trip for baggage that is bigger than a small backpack, like a rolling suitcase. Passengers can still place smaller carry-ons under the seat in front of them for free.
The spokesperson emphasized that this applies to new bookings made starting Wednesday, and not old bookings made for trips that take place after Wednesday. The extra fee also applies exclusively to flights going to and from the Netherlands.
The tariff of 15 euros applies to luggage weighing up to 10 kilograms. The spokesperson previously said there are other fees for heavier pieces of luggage.
Corendon is not the first airline to charge passengers for bringing a bags onboard the aircraft. At the beginning of the year, it emerged that Transavia would start charging, as the earline claimed its cabin space was too small to make sure every passenger could bring a larger bag in the aircraft.
Ryanair and EasyJet preceded both companies in 2018 and 2021, respectively.
