No trains around Noord-Brabant town after train collides with Carnaval float

Due to a collision between a Carnaval float and a train in Berghem (Noord-Brabant) on Sunday night, no trains are running until at least noon on Monday, a ProRail spokesperson reported. Only the train driver got hurt in the collision on the level crossing at Zevenbergseweg. He was taken to a hospital.

The collision happened at around 11:30 p.m. The police and several emergency services responded to the scene. Alternative transport was arranged for the passengers on the train involved in the crash, the police said.

NS previously assumed that the trains between Oss and Wijchen could start running again around 4:00 a.m., but the repair work is taking longer than expected. The ProRail spokesperson explained that the debris from the float and the train must first be removed. Only then can it make a plan for repairs to the track. He thinks the noon forecast is optimistic.

The police cannot yet say anything about how the accident happened and are investigating.
