Man arrested for selling fake Formula 1 tickets worth €70,000
Police arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of selling 70,000 euros in fraudulent tickets to Formula 1 races. In some cases he delivered fake tickets, while in other cases he delivered nothing at all.
Thirty people reported to the police as victims thus far. The suspect conducted the transactions on social media, claiming to have tickets for the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The investigation into the man from Sommelsdijk, Zuid-Holland began after several victims contacted authorities. An investigation led police to the suspect.
He was arrested on Thursday, and brought before an examining magistrate the following day. During the hearing, the suspect was released from pre-trial detention, though he is still considered a suspect in the case.
Victims who believe they were defrauded by the suspect can contact either the victims' support desks at the police or Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam.
