Long Covid patients going abroad for blood filtration treatment
Long Covid patients in the Netherlands are so desperate for relief from their symptoms that they are going abroad for treatments, some of which have not been scientifically proven, according to the Volkskrant.
Blood filtration is a popular treatment. Patients say it reduces their symptoms, but there is no scientific data for the treatment yet. Dutch healthcare institutions, therefore, don’t provide it.
But sixteen clinics, mainly in Germany, do provide the treatment. Dozens of Dutch patients have already undergone the therapy, which costs about 1,300 euros per treatment. Patients often require six to eight treatments.
Oxygen therapy is another treatment for which many Dutch Long Covid patients go abroad, often to Cyprus. According to the Volkskrant, Dutch doctors are also positive about the results of a study into oxygen therapy. They hope to soon also offer it in the Netherlands.
