The Dutch men’s national football team topped Georgia by a score of 3-0 in Oranje’s last match before the Euro ‘20 competition gets underway. The two teams played in front of 7,500 fans at De Grolsch Veste in Enschede on Sunday night.
“We are ready for the European Championship", Oranje manager Frank De Boer told NOS after the match. “We will be completely ready in a week. I could see from the happy faces on the players that they think the same way."
The Netherlands overcame moments of poor defending early in the match to jump out ahead 1-0. ”It has to be better, especially defensively. But I have certainly seen bright spots, both in possession and when losing the ball,” De Boer said of his team’s performance.
The goal was scored in the 10th minute with Memphis Depay converting a penalty after teammate Denzel Dumfries was tackled in the box. Brilliant goalkeeping from Giorgi Lora kept Georgia in the match, until the 55th minute when Wout Weghorst scored his first ever international goal to make it 2-0. About 21 minutes later, Ryan Gravenberch took the score to 3-0.
Oranje’s next match will be its first in the Euro, when they take in Ukraine on June 13. They play Austria in June 17, and North Macedonia on June 21. All three matches will be played in Amsterdam.
