Man stabbed to death on Amsterdam street
Police in Amsterdam said that a man who died on the Sara Burgerhartstraat in Bos en Lommer on Friday was stabbed to death. No arrests were made immediately after the incident, which took place just after 12:40 a.m.
It happened near the Sloterdijk train station in front of a hostel and a supermarket. Police and paramedics raced to the scene after a violent incident was reported there, and a trauma team was flown in by helicopter.
Attempts were made to resuscitate the victim on the street in Amsterdam West, but he died there as a result of his injuries, authorities said.
“We are looking for witnesses who have seen something,” police wrote in English on social media. They asked that anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area, or who might have camera footage from the area, to contact them straight away.
Investigators were still trying to determine the motive later in the morning. No descriptions of any suspects were released.
About five hours after the stabbing, a citizen alert was issued on Burgernet for people in the area of the Lelylaan in Amsterdam. That suspect was described as a 27-year-old white male with dark hair, wearing a dark hoody with hire letters, dark pants and light gym shoes.
If spotted, residents were urged to call 112 and report it. He was still at large at 6:30 a.m.
