Man arrested for possession of 1.5 million euros and 82 kilograms of cocaine

Police in Breda arrested a 28-year-old man after officers discovered 1.5 million euros of cash and 82 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment in his car. The Rotterdam man was taken into custody Thursday on suspicion of drug trafficking and money laundering.

He was still in jail two days after his arrest on the Konijnenberg in Breda. National division police made the traffic stop at about 4 p.m. when they saw the suspect’s car, which was towing a trailer with another vehicle on it. Police did not say why the car was stopped.

“A hidden space was found during the check of the vehicle on the trailer. In that hidden space, the police immediately saw a large amount of drugs and a large amount of cash,” a police report stated.

The drugs hold a street value of up to 5 million euros, according to addiction research center Jellinek. Both cars, several phones, the drugs and the money were seized, police said.

The investigation into the case is ongoing. Police officers said they were increasingly finding professionally constructed hidden compartments in cars used for criminal activity, like transporting cash, weapons and drugs out of sight.
