
Covid-19 deaths top 5,500 in the Netherlands, up 54
Officials in the Netherlands confirmed the deaths of another 54 Covid-19 patients in the country, bringing the total number of fatal cases to 5,510. The newly-reported deaths include 13 which took place on Monday and 8 more from Sunday, raising that day's total to 15.
Public health agency RIVM also acknowledged the deaths of 21 more people with Covid-19 from over the weekend. The remaining fatal cases dated from March 24 through May 8.
Additionally, 35 more hospitalizations were reported compared to figures released on Monday. Among them are one person who entered hospital on Monday, two who arrived on Sunday, and 8 more who were admitted on Saturday, bringing that day's total up to 10.
To date, the Netherlands has seen 11,378 people enter hospital for the coronavirus disease.
The country's total number of people who tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus stood at 42,984, after another 196 positive tests were recorded through early Tuesday morning. At least 267 thousand people have been tested for the virus in the Netherlands.
