1,000 kilos of illegal fireworks found in residential neighborhood, 2 arrested

The police found a thousand kilograms of illegal fireworks in a garage on Tichlerstraat in IJsselmuiden on Sunday, after receiving an anonymous tip. Two men were arrested, the Overijssel police said on Twitter.

"The fireworks were therefore stored in the middle of a residential neighborhood", the police said, calling the situation "life-threateningly dangerous".

The garage contained mainly cobras and nitrate bombs. Cobra fireworks are often compared to hand grenades by the police, according to RTL Nieuws. Enthusiasts of this type of firework calls that an exaggeration, but there are known cases of cobras blowing a door off its hinges or shattering windows, the broadcaster writes.
