Father killed in Amstelveen health club shooting; Getaway vehicle in flames
Shots rang out at a sports school in Amstelveen on Thursday afternoon, leaving one person dead in a likely street assassination. The suspects in the case evaded arrest, and their vehicle was later found in flames, police said.
The victim had just put his child into his car when the shooting took place, crime reporter Wouter Laumens said on Twitter. The car was a BMW with bulletproof armor, reported the Parool. After the shooting, the child ran back into the sports center.
The shooting was reported just after 5:15 p.m., which sent police, paramedics, and a trauma team by helicopter to the parking lot adjacent to the Health City location on Escapade. "The police are conducting an investigation and the area is largely restricted," authorities stated.
Parents trying to pick up their children were kept on one side of the parking lot while the children were forced to wait indoors on the opposite side. The families were reunited about a half-hour later, according to AT5.

Police quickly put out an alert for an older Volkswagen Transporter in silver with darkened or covered-up rear windows. Just two minutes after the alert was released to the public, firefighters were dispatched to the Buitensingel in Amsterdam-Duivendrecht for a reported vehicle fire.
A van similar to the description was found on fire at that location. Police cancelled the bulletin at about 6:45 p.m. because the vehicle used was found smoldering.
