Man blows off his own hand in firework accident

A fireworks accident in Callantsoog led to the loss of one person’s hand. The incident took place on Saturday night in the Noord-Holland town.

An ambulance was dispatched to the intersection of Nijverheidsweg and Jeweldijk after friends of the victim heard a loud bang from a shed and found the victim covered in blood. When paramedics arrived they found the victim seriously injured after a firework that had been in his hands exploded.

His injuries were tended to inside the ambulance, after his friends had helped provide first aid. He was then transported to hospital by a trauma helicopter.

“Further investigation will determine exactly what happened and what type of firework it was,” police said in a statement.
