Video released of cop's assault in Rotterdam wedding procession

The police released new video footage of a police officer being assaulted by members of a wedding procession in Rotterdam at the end of August. The video, shown on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday, shows a man attacking the officer from behind, knocking him out. The perpetrator of the assault managed to get away and is still at large.

The incident happened on Westzeedijk in Rotterdam on Friday, August 30th. The officer addressed members of a wedding procession about dangerous driving behavior. Cars from the procession blocked roads to other traffic, and some members were sitting on top of cars instead of inside them, the police said on Opsporing Verzocht.

After asking one of the wedding guests multiple times to show his driver's license, the police officer decided to arrest the man. It was at this point that another man ran up behind the cop and hit him in the head. The officer collapsed, losing consciousness for a brief time. He sustained a concussion and whiplash in the assault.

The police are still looking for the man who attacked the police officer and are asking the public's help to identify him. Videos of the incident also show that many people witnessed the assault from nearby and may have filmed it. Investigators call on these witnesses to come forward.
