Abuse of boy, 8, streamed live on Facebook

A 27-year-old man was arrested in Leiden over the weekend for abusing an 8-year-old boy and live-streaming the abuse on a Facebook group. The police came into action after receiving multiple reports of the live stream, the police said in a statement on Monday.

Using several objects that could be seen on the live stream, police officers managed to identify where the abuse was taking place. They responded to the home in the center of Leiden during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The police found the 27-year-old man and the 8-year-old boy in the home. The man was arrested. The boy is a family member of the suspect. "The boy was checked by ambulance staff, but did not have to go to the hospital", the police said. The child is now receiving professional help.
