Man dies after stabbing on Amsterdam square

A man was stabbed on Plein '40-'45 in Amsterdam West on Tuesday. The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. A 33-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested shortly after the stabbing, the police said in a statement.

The police responded to the square on Slotermeerlaan at around 2:00 p.m. They found the critically injured man at the scene. The suspect was arrested a short time later. He is in restricted custody, which means that he is only allowed contact with his lawyer. It also means that the police are limited in what information they can reveal. The man will be arraigned on Friday.

There are many stores on Plein '40-'45 and a market was happening on the square at the time of the stabbing, which means that many people witnessed the incident, according to NU.nl. The police call on witnesses to come forward.
