Cop-in-training suspended for beating man unconscious

The police in Tilburg suspended a police officer in training who is suspected of beating a man unconscious while not on duty. The incident happened in Tilburg's nightlife area during the early hours of Sunday morning, RTL Nieuws reports.

A friend of the 20-year-old victim told the broadcaster that they noticed they were being filmed by a man on a bicycle around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. An argument arose when they asked the man to delete the video. The man said he was from the police and showed them ID to prove it, the friend said.

The man then hit the 20-year-old victim out of nowhere, according to the friend. The victim ended up unconscious on the ground, after which the suspect cycled away. The injured man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The suspected officer is on suspension while the incident is being investigated. The victim filed charges of assault against him, and a criminal investigation was launched.
