U.S. adjusts travel advice for Netherlands over terrorism threat

The United States Department of State adjusted travel advice for the Netherlands because of a threat of terrorism. The threat level given by the U.S. for the Netherlands was raised from level 1 to level 2. This means that there are increased safety risks and visitors must be extra careful, according to the travel advice, RTL Nieuws reports.

In September two American tourists were stabbed at Amsterdam Central Station. The perpetrator had a terrorist motive, according to statements he made to the police. And last week the police arrested seven people in Arnhem and Weert. They were planning a major attack at a big event, according to the authorities.

The terrorism threat level as set by the Dutch National Coordinator for Counter-terrorism and Security is at level 4 out of 5. That means that there is a real chance of a terrorist attack in the Netherlands, but currently no concrete indications that one is being planned. The threat level was not increased after the above mentioned events.
