Technical fault causes flight delays at Schiphol

Arriving flights at Schiphol airport are delayed on Tuesday morning due to a technical fault at Air Traffic Control. Most departures are on Schedule, the airport reports. Travelers are advised to check the airport's website or app, or with their airline, for actual flight information.

The fault occurred late on Monday afternoon. Between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. dozens of flights were delayed, according to NOS. Around 7:50 p.m. the cause of the fault was found - a broken cable is causing problems with the back-up communication systems of the Air Traffic Control towers at the airport. "As a consequence, airport capacity is reduced and delays should be expected."

At 6:30 a.m. Schiphol said that the fault still hasn't been resolved. "Capacity on incoming flights is still reduced, but this is no longer the case for departing flights. Please be aware that your flight may be delayed. We kindly advise you to check your flight details in advance."

On August 15th there were also problems with the Air Traffic Control communication systems at the airport. This fault is unrelated to the one over two weeks ago, Air Traffic Control said, according to NOS.
