Home, car damaged in Amsterdam explosion

An explosion happened on Nieuwenhuysenstraat in the Amsterdam district of Slotermeer early on Wednesday morning. The porch of a home and a car were damaged. Nobody was injured, AT5 reports.

The police responded to the scene at around 1:45 a.m. and closed down the area around the explosion.

"Our car's windows were broken", a local resident said to the Amsterdam broadcaster. "The blow was so hard. Everyone woke up. We thought who targeted our car? It turned out not to be so later. It was a hand grenade at the door." The resident did not want to speculate who the explosion was aimed at. "Many people are on vacation. It is a quiet neighborhood."

The police are investigating. A spokesperson would not confirm to AT5 whether a hand grenade was involved.
