Woman, 19, dies after parachuting accident

A 19-year-old woman from Hilversum passed away after being critically injured in a parachuting accident in Teuge on Saturday, the Nationaal Paracentrum Teuge said on Monday, Hart van Nederland reports.

Exactly how the accident happened is unclear. According to the parachuting center, the woman's parachute opened correctly, but something went wrong in the landing.

The woman landed in a meadow next to campgrounds Weeltenkamp, a few hundred meters away from the landing space, AD reports. A trauma helicopter was deployed to the scene and the woman was rushed to a hospital in Zwolle. She sustained a brain injury.

The aviation police and the accident committee of the Dutch aviation association KNVL are investigating what happened, according to Hart van Nederland.
