FC Emmen promoted to Eredivisie
FC Emmen was promoted to the Eredivisie for the first time in the club's history on Sunday after a 1-3 victory in an away game against Sparta Rotterdam in the final of the playoffs. "We knew we could achieve this but that we actually made it happen, is wonderful", Youri Loen said to NU.nl.
The historical promotion caused quite the celebration in Emmen. On Sunday evening, the players and technical staff were honored by thousands of supporters at the Raadhuisplein in the city of Drenthe. "This means a lot to FC Emmen. The whole city is upside down. The fans are crazy. It's one big madhouse", Loen said to the newspaper.
"We also showed in [Sunday's] match what the strength of FC Emmen is. We are a solid collective. We can play football well, but we also fight for every meter", Loen said. "The trainer [Dick Lukkien] also has a big share in this success. He always boosted us up at the right time and is tactically very strong."
