Official attacked in Leeuwarden city hall, one arrested

On Wednesday the police arrested a man in the city hall of Leeuwarden for threatening and attacking an employee. The municipal employee sustained injuries to his hand, NU.nl reports.

The man threatened the employee with "something that looks like a knife", a spokesperson for the police said to the newspaper. The employee was checked over by paramedics. The extent of his injuries is unclear.

The police closed down the city hall for investigation. The suspect was taken to a police station for questioning.

Why the man was at the city hall is unclear. Civil affairs, like getting a passport, are handled in a different building. "We have a lot of startled employees we still have to talk to", the spokesperson said to NU.nl.
