Man and woman hurt in Nijmegen house fire

A man and a woman were hurt in a house fire on Rijnstraat in Nijmegen early on Thursday morning. The man jumped out of a window to escape the flames, the woman was rescued by firefighters, Omroep Gelderland reports.

The woman sustained burns and inhaled a lot of smoke. She was resuscitated at the scene before being rushed to hospital in serious condition. The extent of the man's injuries is unclear. Firefighters also rescued two dogs from the burning home.

The fire started around 5:00 a.m. When the fire department arrived, the entire bottom floor was on fire. Firefighters managed to stop it spreading to adjacent homes. The fire is under control, but firefighters are still working on extinguishing it.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
