Detainee takes bite out of cell wall
On Saturday night the police arrested a 30-year-old man from Capelle aan den IJssel for assaulting his ex-wife. The suspect was very aggressive and was placed in an isolation cell, where he took a bite out of the cell's padded wall, the police said in a statement.
Police officers responded to the victim's home around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night, after she called for help. At the home in the Middelwatering neighborhood of Capelle aan den IJssel, the officers found the woman covered in bruises. Her young child was with her.
The officers had a very hard time getting the suspect under control, especially once he heard that he was being arrested. The man attacked the officers, hitting them in their faces. Eventually the officers used a taser, and managed to handcuff the man and take him to a police station. There he still hadn't calmed down, and was placed in an isolation cell. He took a bite out of the cell's padded wall, according to the police.
The 34-year-old woman was taken to hospital to be checked over. She sustained multiple bruises and contusions. Both the victim and the police officers involved in the arrest pressed charges against the man.
In the suspect's home, the police found a balaclava, a large hatchet and ammunition. The suspect is in custody and will be arraigned on Tuesday.
