Over 4,500 kilos of cocaine found in container destined for NL; Six arrested
The police arrested six people in Oss on Monday after the Belgian authorities discovered 4,500 kilograms of cocaine in a container at the port of Antwerp over the weekend, the police said in a statement.
The cocaine was hidden in a banana shipment that came from Colombia. The Belgian authorities removed the drugs from the container and sent it on to its delivery address. The Dutch police took over when that delivery address turned out to be in Oss.
The suspects - four men and two women - were arrested when they came to search the container in Oss on Monday. A police spokesperson estimated the value of the cocaine to be "certainly 170 million euros" speaking to Omroep Brabant.
The suspects are a 42-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman from Uden, two men aged 42 and 61 from Oss, a 39-year-old woman from Nuland and a 27-year-old man from Colombia. They are in custody for further investigation and will be arraigned later this week.
