Maastricht doctor arrested for mother-in-law's murder

On Tuesday morning the police officially arrested a Maastricht doctor on suspicion of involvement in the death of his 76-year-old mother-in-law, the police said in a statement.

The doctor worked at nursing home Martha Flora, where his mother-in-law was also cared for. The woman died on July 29th, 2016. The doctor gave the elderly woman high doses of medication in the days before and night of her death, according to De Limburger. The police believe this medication could have led to, or accelerated her death.

The nursing home staff were all questioned by the police over the past months. The police also raided several locations, seized a number of data carriers and talked to witnesses and experts.

"In the interest of the investigation and in the interest of protecting the privacy of those involved, no further announcements can be made at this time", the police said.
