Avalanche kills Dutch woman, 31, in Swiss Alps

A 31-year-old Dutch woman was killed by an avalanche in the Swiss Alps on Thursday. A 27-year-old Dutch man was injured, AD reports.

The Dutch were skiing off the slopes at Ovronnaz in the southwest of Switzerland  around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday when they were buried by a mass of snow, around 200 meters long and 20 meters wide. They were at an altitude of 1,710 meters at the time.

Other skiers dug the two Dutch out of the snow and they were rushed to a hospital in Sion by helicopter. The Dutch woman succumbed to her injuries in hospital. The man only sustained minor injuries.
