Motorist tries to run over firefighter
A 29-year-old man from Goudswaard tried to crash his car into a firefighter in Schiedam on Thursday. "Our colleague managed to jump away just in time. This is absurd", a spokesperson for local safety office Veiligheidsregio Rotterdam-Rijmond said to newspaper AD.
A team of firefighters were taking carbon monoxide measurements on Admiraal Trompstraat when the incident happened. The man got out of his car and exchanged words with the firefighter. "From the colleagues I understand that the man wanted to drive past them", the safety office spokesperson said. "When that was not possible, he got back in his car and tried to hit the firefighter."
After the incident, the entire team went to the police station to file a report." It made a great impression on everyone. These firefighters could temporarily not be deployed due to the incident", the spokesperson said, adding that they did complete their shift later.
The motorist will appear in court at a later date.
