Tech sector accounts for 11 pct of Amsterdam jobs
The technology sector in Amsterdam accounts for around 60 thousand jobs - 11 percent of the total number of jobs in the Dutch capital, according to a study by business analysis company Dealroom on behalf of municipal organization StartupAmsterdam, Het Parool reports.
A number of large tech companies such as hotel room booking site Booking.com, navigation service provider TomTom, and payment company Ayden together account for around 6 thousand jobs. A total of 859 local tech companies together make up just over half of the tech jobs in Amsterdam. The rest comes from 184 branches of foreign technological companies like Microsoft, Netflix and Uber.
The tech sector in Amsterdam is also growing very fast, according to the study. Over the past two years, this sector created 10 thousand new jobs. Only the Amsterdam catering industry grew faster in this period.
Amsterdam's startup and scale-up companies also grew slightly faster than foreign technology companies. This is partly because more capital is available. Investors now spend around three times as much as they did four years ago, according to the researchers.
