Police search Vlaardingen lake for evidence in young woman's murder
The police are searching in and around recreational lake Krabbeplas in Vlaardingen for evidence in the murder of 21-year-old Graciela Gomes Rodriquez. The young woman was found murdered in a ditch near the lake on September 23rd, the Telegraaf reports.
Graciela left her work at Kentucky Fried Chicken on Galvanistraat in Rotterdam just after midnight on September 22nd. Surveillance camera footage shows her leaving the fast food restaurant around 00:30 a.m. Six hours later, the police found her body.
Police divers started searching the lake on Tuesday and are continuing on Wednesday. They are looking for a number of specific items, including the murder weapon and a black Samsung Galaxy S7. There are still a number of uncertainties around the young woman's murder. For example, it's not clear how she got from her job at KFC to the Krabbeplas.
A 31-year-old from Schiedam was arrested in connection with Graciela's death. He is suspected of manslaughter and is still in custody.
