Childcare worker accused of child sex abuse remanded to custody

Bart C., a pedagogical assistant accused of sexually abusing multiple children at a Patrou establishment in De Bilt, was remanded into custody for another 30 days by the Midden-Nederland Court on Friday, RTV Utrecht reports.

The 27-year-old man from Utrecht worked at the after-school department of the Patrou establishment in Weltervreden, De Bilt. He was arrested two weeks ago after two girls from the same family told their parents that he made them perform sexual acts with him. He confessed to sexually abusing these two girls. A number of other parents also filed charges against him in the days after his arrest.

Last week the Public Prosecutor announced that C. tried to commit suicide in his cell. He was taken to hospital for treatment, and is now back in prison.
