Large container ship stranded on Westerschelde

Large container ship CSCL Jupiter is stuck on the Westerschelde near Bath, the Rijkswaterstaat announced. Shipping traffic is halted for at least the rest of the day, ANP reports.

The CSCL Jupiter is 366 meters long, according to the news wire. As it is currently outgoing tide, nothing can be done about the ship right away, a spokesperson for the Rijkswaterstaat said. At high tide around 8:00 p.m., the ship will be freed.

How the container ship came to be stranded is not yet clear. It was sailing from Antwerp to Hamburg.
