Fmr. alderman could face jail for sex with 16-year-old girl

Former CDA alderman in Gorinchem Eeuwit K. could face prison time for allegations of having sex with a 16-year-old girl. On Wednesday the Public Prosecutor demanded 18 months in prison, of which 6 months could be conditionally suspended, against the 33-year-old man from Bleskensgraaf, NU.nl reports.

According to the Prosecutor, K. abused his position of power in his relationship with the teenager. The girl went to the same church as the married politician and also worked as a babysitter for his children.

K. already admitted having a short sexual relationship with the girl in 2015, while he was faction leader for the CDA in Gorinchem. The relationship remained secret until the girl pressed charges against K. the following year. The charges surprised the CDA man and resulted in him losing his position as alderman, and he can also no longer return to his former employer, the police department.

At the start of the trial, K. expressed deep regret for acts of adultery, but maintained that the relationship with the teen was based on reciprocal love. His lawyer asked for acquittal on these grounds. According to the lawyer, the teenage girl was in the relationship of her own choice, she was not forced.

The court in Rotterdam will rule on August 2nd.
