Thunderstorms trigger code yellow warning for most Dutch provinces
Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow weather warning due to thunderstorms expected to hit the Netherlands later this afternoon. The storms may be accompanied by lighting strikes, hail and strong winds, the KNMI warns.
The weather warning covers all provinces except Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. The thunder storms will hit the southern provinces first and then move northwards across the country. The code yellow warning is effective from 3:00 p.m. until early Friday morning.
"Traffic and outside activities may be hindered. Avoid open water and open areas, don't shelter under trees. Follow weather reports and warnings", the KNMI advises.
Afternoon temperatures today will range from 23 degrees in the Wadden area to 30 degrees in the southeast of the country. The weekend is expected to be cloudy to partly cloudy with maximum temperatures between 21 and 25 degrees, with some showers.
