Jumbo bids on Emté supermarket takeover

Jumbo and another party placed a joint bid to takeover Sligro's supermarket chain Emté, the Telegraaf reports based on sources in the market. The amount involved is unknown, but according to the newspaper, it's high enough to be "difficult for Sligro to let go".

A spokesperson for Jumbo told NU.nl that they "will not respond to rumors". No one could be reached at Sligro for a comment.

In addition to its wholesalers, Sligro has 131 supermarkets under the name Emté. The supermarket chain has been struggling with declining sales for some time.

After the Telegraaf reported the takeover bid, Sligro's shares increased by more than 5 percent, according to NU.nl.
