Eddie Vedder pays tribute to Chris Cornell in Amsterdam show
Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder paid tribute to his recently deceased friend Chris Cornell during a solo show in Amsterdam on Saturday. Cornell, best known as frontman for band Soundgarden, hanged himself in a hotel room in Detroit on Wednesday, NY Daily News reports.
While Vedder didn't mention Cornell by name, it was clear that the 52-year-old grunge singer was on his mind.
"I'm thinking of a lot of people tonight. And some in particular and their families. And I just know that healing takes time, if it ever happens", he said during the show, according to the newspaper. "It takes time, and that means you have to start somewhere. So let it be music. Let it be love and togetherness. And let it be Amsterdam."
According to Rolling Stone, Vedder also changed the lyrics in Long Road from "but still something's missing" to "without you something is missing".
Saturday's gig in Amsterdam was Vedder's first performance since Cornell's death.
