Prosecutors can continue fight against Schiphol taxi recruiters: Court
The Public Prosecutor can continue criminal cases against taxi recruiters who mislead travelers at Schiphol with their services, the court in Haarlem ruled last week, ANP reports..
Aggressive taxi recruiters - who hang out in front of the airport and convince travelers to get into certain taxis - have been causing trouble at the airport for some time. The recruiter would lead the travelers to taxis outside the airport's designated taxi area, which can only be used by taxis with a Schiphol license. Travelers then often had to pay very high tariffs once they reached their destination.
Based on the Haarlem court ruling, the taxi recruiters will be fined between 300 and 1,200 euros, the Prosecutor announced on Monday.
The new Local Regulation for Schiphol was implemented in February. It states that offering taxi services inside and outside the Schiphol Terminal is always forbidden, except for the designated taxi area.
